BMW is announcing a lot of ’green’ news today for its model lineup. The 2008 BMW lineup will now have 22 models that achieve over 48mpg while emitting 140g/km or less of CO2 as well as increased performance. As we just reported earlier, the BMW 6-Series will get a powerful diesel-powered 635d. BMW also announced the new 123d for its 1-series range. General Motors has confessed that it's being silently developing a new Duramax V8 oil-burner to power its charismatic Hummer H2 SUV as well as the pair of Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra pickup trucks. Scheduled to go on the assembly line by the end of year 2009, the diesel will have a displacement of 4.5 liters. Maybe, not so impressive for the local customer, but bear in mind that the engine will be 25 per cent more fuel efficient than its gasoline counterpart of comparable displacement. Join discussion...

Apparently, the diesel version will be made available towards the end of next year, following the arrival of a mighty V10 powered model. The 4.2L TDI will be lifted from the company’s Q7 SUV, but we can expect it to be tweaked a little, taking power from 322bhp up to around 350bhp. The sprint to 60mph should be in the region of 5 seconds, while a 160mph top speed seems very realistic. The 5.0L V10 model should be with us by early 2008, priced around £85,000.
